Just found a nice new perch covered with rust….
Even the top bird came in to have a look….
Last Wednesday was an amazing day, One of those magic day.
The weather was lovely and I knew that all the farmers of the area would be harvesting wheat. During the afternoon, I went for an hour to see what I could photograph.
It was incredible
The harvest was fully on
The baling machine was baling straw
They were buzzard everywhere, I counted 12 birds.
It was amazing, and I could get close to them too
Here the buzzard is calling
It was nice to be able to capture all sorts of behaviours
Eating a prey
And flying from one bale to another…Beautiful
It was a buzzard day!
Even a Chinese water deer came out…
Yesterday morning, I was at my woodland hide. I have been feeding there for the last month. I have two sparrowhawk coming. It`s a job to stop them.
I have place, Post, Branch everywhere.
Yesterday I was lucky.
One male came twice.
A bit of a crop, but I like this backlit picture…..
When the sparrowhawk happened to land within 6 metres of you.
Trust me when I say this: you stop breathing and you DO NOT MOVE!!
This one was in front of me for twenty minutes.
Yesterday, I went back to see if I could do better with those buzzards. One “young” was perched on a pine tree. They are quite “easy” to approach at the moment.
I also came a across the feathers of a sparrowhawk . I don`t know what could have killed it? The feather were from a young bird. Probably another female sparrowhawk.??? Don`t know.
A superb barn owl was perched on a wood pile…they are always spectacular to watch….
The British countryside look stunning at the moment…Flowers everywhere…
This afternoon I went to my local patch. I was looking for badger activity when suddenly I came across three Tawny owl chicks. They were on the ground. I pick them up one by one and place them in a tree. (They are dog walkers in that place) Now, Did I have my camera with me? What do you think? No I did not!! I was cursing big style! I just had one thing to do. Drive back home to get my camera! It took me an hour to go back home to get the camera. When I came back, one of the three tawny owl chick had disappear. One was perched in a different tree and the other one was on a branch.
I took several pictures and left the owl. I am sure that the female Tawny owl was looking at me all the time.
Tomorrow I will go and another look .
Again, this morning I was for 2 hours in My Woodland hide. The sparrowhawk activity was incredible. I had three different bird attacking birds. I must have had seven attacks in the small amount of time that I was at my hide. I am yet to see any bird of prey catching anything…..
The small first winter male came again and landed on a pine tree. That little male is bomb proof; I must have taken 200 pictures of that bird. I cannot wait to go back…..
Just been confirmed that this bird is a second winter male….Not easy…
This afternoon, I went to my woodland hide for two hours. Again, very few bird. But a very classy one did turn up.I think that it is a first winter male. If anyone thinks that it could be a female, please I would be delighted to hear your opinion. It is a shame that the light was not better. But, that will have do for now.
At last, Last Saturday we had a bit of light. It was about time too. I went to my woodland hide for four hours. They were not many birds? I do not know why. Maybe it is because the weather is very mild at the moment? Don’t know. I have found a pine tree with a lot of cone. I took a few branches to use as prop for my picture. It is always nice to have a new prop. I had quite a few of blue tit and great tit around the hide. For two hours I did not do very much. I wanted to take a picture of a bird on top of my little pine tree head. The cone on top of the tree was tied up there by me. I thought that the top of the pine tree was a bit empty. I never got a passerine on top of the tree. when suddenly the kestrel arrived. The kestrel tries to catch a bird but missed, and went on top of my pine tree. The bloody cone that I had tied on top of the tree dropped on the ground. (Yes, I did curse) Still, I was very happy with the arrival of that beautiful bird. The bird stayed for 5 minutes and then flew away……30 minutes later the kestrel was back and yet again did not catch a bird, but landed on another perch…..more on this later….The sparrowhawk came once but did not land anywhere…
