I made some tweak ….I wanted pictures of kingfisher under water with less chaos in the picture… I quite please with these.
The kingfisher dive is fast, very fast. I am trying to catch what the eyes can`t see…
The Kingfisher is probably one of the most charismatic bird in Britain. Incredible colours and bad tampered! 🙂
I wanted to photograph kingfisher fishing. So I setup my own hide . Yes, I could have dished out £ 150.00 and go in one of those paying hide thing..
But I wasn`t interested. I wanted to do my own thing. I like to setup my hide , go on recce etc…
It just take some time. But the reward are extraordinaire, if it works of course.
Boy did it work! At the moment, I have four different birds. They are chasing each other, fishing, fighting, calling etc.. . It`s amazing to watch ….
These pictures were taken in two photographic session. This is a work in progress of course …will see what happened next…
I got a kingfisher on a perch and I was very happy
The next challenge was to get the bird in flight…not easy…
I was over the moon with those pictures but I wanted more…
This male is going down like a rocket. the speed is amazing
Coming out of the water with his prize.
Just before eating his prize
I will do those to the death! 🙂 They had forecasted full sun today. Well yet again they were wrong! I do not like sun on kingfisher. It was bright overcast. So I went for three hours at my hide. Again I had some very interesting behaviour.
This female was ejecting a pellet from her throat (Fish bones)
You can see the pellet inside her throat.
Lovely soft light on the bird.
Aie, My neck… 🙂
Here is the female preening
Another day, another recce. This morning I came across something that I have never see before. A young kingfisher was caught in the mud. It could not move. I pick it up, wash it, and place it on a branch. The parents were not far away so I think that this young bird is going to be ok.
After a good wash, I place this young bird in a tree.
This morning, I was in my kingfisher hide. I had to wait for several hours before taking any shot! That little tyke is getting difficult to photograph. The river will soon be inaccessible. As soon as the rain comes…it will be all over. The river will flood instantly…This could be the last time I photograph that little jewel this year…..
