The lapwing used to be a very common wader in our countryside. Now it`s almost gone. A real shame as it is a cracking bird!

It`s always interesting to get the moon in the background of a picture. Two picture I took last Sunday… The first one are lapwings in flight and the second one is a Rook silhouette.

Lapwing chick
Two days ago while I was photographing hare I came across a lapwing. It was in the middle of a field. I did find that bizarre. I stop and started to scan with my binocular, when suddenly I came across a chick. I was quite surprise to see a lapwing chick there as buzzard are breeding there and Two pair of carrion crow are also there. I took a few pictures and left the birds in peace.

During the last two months, I have been following the adventure of 7 lapwing nest. Out of the 7 nesting lapwing only one did reach the end of incubation. Only three chicks survived after the first day and only two after a week. It is incredible how many lapwing nests get predated. Almost all of them except one! Life is not easy for the lapwing. Most of the nests were predated by crow,magpie,etc ….
Here is a picture of a very, very lucky bird.
